In the words of the Great Terry Scott Taylor, front man for Daniel Amos one part of (one of my favorite bands) the Lost Dogs, solo artist and producer extraordinaire.
“How many more of these semi-nude, auto-tuned, reverb drenched, triple vocal tracked, sex obsessed… Dancers, with belly buttons more impressive than vocal ability, do we have to put up with before the whole thing implodes?”
When I woke up this morning I was thinking the exact same thing, but Terry Taylor said it so well I had to share it with you! He is referring to the difference between artists that play live and others that use tracks and dancing to entertain, and (this may sound harsh) what I believe to be the difference between Music and a cheap (or not so cheap) trick. If you like you can read the whole thing here, http://www.danielamos.com/articles/amas.html Of course he is saying much more than just that in the article, but it made me think.
I think we should be supporting our musical artists, and in this time of downloads (a whole other subject open to debate) and “auto tuned, dancers” I feel that we have an even better idea of who the artists really are.
Music is so important. Music and art is the foundation of society. Some may wish to argue that last point, but I believe it. Get in to art, create something, write anything, go out and enjoy live theater and music, live life!
