change change change

Hey… I was just thinking about change… and how people say that you “can’t teach an old dog new tricks”. I was wondering why we apply that to humans? We all say how hard it is to change and some of us use the “I can’t change now” attitude as an excuse not to. Why?
I would hope that in this day and age one would want to work towards an improved version of ourselves. And frankly, I would challenge that you are never too old to change… I see it as a necessity. We all have quirks. Some are mostly non-offensive, and some are hard for other people to deal with. We all have personality flaws, and we all need to be accessing our lives and accepting the fact that we need to change.
And change is good! Maybe hard, but good. After all, it’s what is changing in us everyday that people take notice of, and it is our lives that bear witness to what we believe in, and our relationships with the people around us that is important in the long run.
All for now,
Deni

Y'know Deni you're so right ... the whole change thing can be a tough one ... and it’s not always the "changer" who makes it difficult. It is hard for others to accept or at the very least give a bit of room to those who are changing.
In our church world we talk a lot of grace and community and yet try to make some positive changes to areas in your life and it can be a super hard go. We life in a very un-graceful world sometimes ... before this turns into a "woe is me" speech ... How many times do I not allow someone to grow and mature and ... "change"? Maybe I don't say anything on the outside, but what is going on in my heart?
I have been the recipient of un-grace and, I am ashamed to admit, the giver of un-grace. Grace is a gift from God ... and by that I mean showing grace is a gift ... this does not come naturally to us ... it is a miracle every time grace is shown. If we keep our eyes on Jesus and our hearts tuned to His I believe we can change and allow those around us to do the same. And the beautifulness of grace will form bonds that are beyond explanation ... and allow more change to continue.

I would agree with glee on both comments.
At the end of the day ... change is relative in that God changes us all in different ways, like kaj said regarding the heart ... its all toward and for His glory of course. So we can't just hobby horse the change issue, and institute change for the heck of it. It has to be done with God strategy and with Him in mind.
This does not apply to changing our clothes.
Is there any other reason to change?
